Trecia M. Canty is an accomplished C-suite executive with 25+ years of demonstrated expertise in finance, strategic transactions, corporate governance, compliance, enterprise risk and ESG.  She has extensive energy industry experience, including with respect to oil and natural gas exploration and production (E&P), utilities, pipeline and terminal operations and crude oil refining. She has served as a strategic advisor to public and private boards of directors, CEOs and C-suite executives throughout her career.

She is presently the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and a member of the Executive Committee of PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE: PBF), a Fortune 200 company that is one of the largest independent petroleum refiners and suppliers of unbranded transportation fuels, heating oil, petrochemical feedstocks, lubricants and other petroleum products in the United States.  As a member of PBF’s executive leadership team, Ms. Canty is actively engaged in all aspects of the company’s businesses, focusing on identifying, evaluating and mitigating operational and transactional risk.

Prior to joining PBF, Ms. Canty served as Associate General Counsel, Corporate at Southwestern Energy Company, a natural gas and oil exploration and production company with operations in the United States and Canada.  During her tenure, she led Southwestern’s corporate finance and securities legal function as its market capitalization increased over tenfold, handled the disposition of Southwestern’s legacy natural gas utility business and pipeline investments and served as a strategic partner to the business in the establishment and development of new drilling and midstream gathering business.

Prior to joining Southwestern, Ms. Canty was associated with Cleary Gottlieb in New York, where she represented domestic and international corporate clients on general corporate matters, governance, finance, securities law matters and mergers and acquisitions.

Her legal prowess and leadership skills have been recognized by a number of professional distinctions she has received over the years, including recognition in the Lawyers of Color Power List in 2020; inclusion in the Women Inc. 100 Top Corporate Counsel list in 2019; recognition by Black Enterprise Magazine in its Most Powerful Women in Business in 2019; and recognition by the New York County Lawyers Association as an Outstanding Women in the Legal Profession in 2017.

She has a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in government and sociology, with honors, from Dartmouth College, a master’s degree in public affairs from Princeton University’s School of International and Public Affairs and a juris doctorate from Columbia University School of Law.
