Christine J. Spadafor is an experienced corporate, private equity, university, and nonprofit board director with deep expertise in enterprise-wide transformations, with a focus on turnarounds in both domestic and global markets. She has led corporate restructuring initiatives resulting in strategic redirection, organizational redesign, shifts in corporate culture, leadership development, human capital capability building, effective communication and change management programs, and transformed governance structures across a broad spectrum of industries, including health care and entertainment and media. She has worked extensively as an advisor to Fortune 100 C-suite executives, boards of directors, and private equity.

Christine is CEO of SpadaforClay Group, a management consulting firm. She serves as an Independent Director at Boyd Gaming Corporation, a $3.7B NYSE-listed, highly regulated company, where she is Chair of its Governance and Nominating Committee and a member of the Audit Committee. Christine also serves on the President’s Council of Massachusetts General Hospital’s MGH Institute of Health Professions. She previously served on the boards of Kindred at Home, a private equity portfolio company that is the largest provider of home care and hospice services in the US, where she served as Chair of the Quality and Compliance Committee, and of Intus Care, a private venture-backed company with a proprietary platform to synthesize healthcare data to optimize patient outcomes. Christine serves on the Board of Trustees of Mercyhurst University, on the Advisory Board of WBUR, one of the premier National Public Radio stations in the US, and is a commentator on the BBC World Service “Business Matters” global radio broadcast and podcast and BBC News. She is also a frequent contributor to Forbes, Fortune, Inc., and other business journals.

Christine was a Partner in three premier global management consulting firms (AlixPartners, The Boston Consulting Group, CSC Index). She served as Chief Administrative Officer at a public specialty medical equipment leasing company after fraud was discovered – leading the wind-down of all operations and working with Federal investigators. Christine was engaged in successful corporate transformations at global entertainment and media companies, leading operational redesign, strategic communications, and human capital and change management programs. At a national financial institution losing its competitive edge, Christine led the strategy, organizational redesign, and leadership and governance realignment.

She has also been engaged by private equity firms: Served as advisor to firm’s board and mezzanine lenders after portfolio company failed to sell. Led strategic redesign for scalability and profitability, developed the management team and improved operational performance. Revenues nearly tripled with new strategy and successful sale was completed at attractive multiple; Retained to develop innovative growth strategy for market repositioning at multiple portfolio electronics companies, partnering with the board, investors, executives, and investment bankers. Completed successful sale at attractive multiple; Retained to conduct a leadership assessment at an underperforming portfolio company, resulting in a realigned executive team and increased profitability.

Christine has been the architect of turnarounds at nonprofit organizations, typically when they had only weeks cash on hand. All are currently thriving. For one and against all odds, Christine led a financial and operational multi-state turnaround, restructured the corporation, all operations, corporate governance, and developed the staff. The turnaround was so successful, only a few years later it was named Nonprofit of the Year, with the story developed into a case study taught in the MBA program at Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. In addition to turnarounds, Christine led the development of a worldwide strategy for a perfume company in France, a digital strategy for a globally regulated major medical equipment manufacturer in the Netherlands, and served as a public health consultant to the United Nations in China on public health and sustainability.

Christine is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Harvard School of Public Health. At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she co-authored a workplace health treatise published by Johns Hopkins University. She is a lecturer on Strategic Leadership in the Visiting Executive Program at Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, a lecturer/presenter at Harvard Medical School and other Harvard graduate programs. She is a speaker/keynote at seminars, meetings and podcasts addressing agile leadership, gender equity and board governance, including at the US Chamber of Commerce, Young Presidents Organization and American Medical Group Association. Christine has been awarded two Doctor of Humane Letters degrees – received in recognition of her professional accomplishments and lifelong contributions to vulnerable and at-risk populations.
